On Monday May 26th Gr. 4H had some special visitors. Mackenzie, one of their classmates, brought in her 3 juvenile ducks. It was such a great learning opportunity for the students, as we are studying plants and animals in our last Science Unit. Thank-you again Mackenzie and her Mom Danielle for the great experience.
The Peace River Sheriffs paid École Springfield School a visit to talk about the importance of community and how we can all be community helpers. They visited the French Immersion kindergarten, grade 1, and grade 2 classes and talked all about how the Sheriffs keep the community of Peace River safe. The students got to ask questions, check out the Sheriff van, and ended the day with Sheriff Helper pins to remind them to always help others in need.
Teachers at École Springfield Elementary School have been slowly working at developing an outdoor learning classroom for all the students. This week Mrs. Harpe's Gr. 4 class invited Mrs. Keddie's Outdoor Education Class from Peace River High School to help to develop some flower boxes and some more outdoor seating. We want to thank them for coming to help with the construction as well as reading to the Gr. 4 class in the new space. We invite all classes to spend some time in the outdoor learning classroom this spring and we hope to further develop it, for more use this fall.
École Springfield Elementary and TA Norris Middle School participate in the Healthy Buddies program again this year. Grade 4 students Springfield and Grade 7 students from TA Norris will engage in health-related activities together. The program aims to ease Grade 4 students’ transition to middle school and help both grades build friendships, while Grade 7 students gain leadership and mentorship experience.
Mrs. Aquino's class has been participating in the Classroom Champions program. It is a social emotional learning program where you work through units on topics such as teamwork, perseverance, leadership and healthy living. Each class is assigned a mentor with whom they get to interact with by viewing videos and taking part in challenges etc. Today, their class got to have a Zoom meeting with Olympic Speed Skater Tyson Langelaar. The students got to ask questions, show him what they've been working on and even played a game with him of "would you rather!". He has been a great mentor and the class is excited to continue to learn alongside him and the Classroom Champions program.
