How to Register

All registrations are now done online!  Please click here to register. If help is required students may register at École Springfield School at any time during the school year. A parent or guardian may contact the school by phone, website, e-mail.

A completed registration form will include information personal information such as name, age, and gender as well grade level, special program requirements or medical concerns. Peace River School Division Policy 02.42 dictates that a copy of a birth certificate or other appropriate legal document must accompany new registrations and the parent or guardian present the student in person.

Textbook Rentals and School Fees

There is an annual textbook rental fee, which board policy requires, to be paid by September 15 th. Although in cases of need, parents may make arrangements with the principal to pay the rental in installments. Supplies can be purchased as a package for each student in September. Upon the recommendation of our School Council we collect a fee from each student for cultural performances throughout the year: entertainers, plays, etc.

Safe and Caring School

At Springfield School, we are serious about making sure your child is well taken care of while he/she is in our care. The following are ways we ensure this:

Locked-door Policy:

After morning announcements, all the outside doors are locked. Only the main entryway door remains open. Students who are late, parents and visitors are asked to come through the main doors and check in at the office. At recesses, doors are unlocked by supervising teachers and relocked once students are safely inside.

Phone home Policy:

We are a safe and caring school committed to keeping our students as safe as possible. Part of that commitment includes our Office Managers phoning all families with children missing, if we haven’t heard from those families before hand. We ask that parents call in or write in their child’s agenda if they know their child will be absent, at the Dentist/Doctor or away for an extended time. This helps keep the phone calls to a minimum. For your information we do not call long distance. We do have Voicemail for messages.

Parent Visits:

Although parents are formally invited to special events at the school, parents are always welcome at the school any time. However, to ensure that learning is not being interrupted, please check into the office before going to the classroom or give us a courtesy call stating that you would like to spend some time in the classroom.

Accidents and Emergencies

Accidents and Illness:

Should your child become injured or ill while at school, we will try to contact you at home or at work. If we cannot reach you we shall contact the Emergency Contact Person indicated on your registration form. We have an infirmary where sick children may rest until their parents arrive. We do not administer medication to children unless the doctor or pharmacist have  provide written instructions. Medication must come in original prescription bottles with clear instructions.

Students who are too ill to go outside for recess, are usually too ill to be at school. This is particularly true in the case of severe colds. Sick children coming to school provide a source of infection for the other students. Sick children usually recuperate faster at home. Please keep your child at home if he/she is sick.

Emergencies:

In an emergency, which requires evacuation of the school building, students and staff will proceed to the gym of École des Quatre-Vents, T.A. Norris or Peace River High School and will remain there until parents are able to pick students. In an emergency, whereby a student is injured, the following will occur:

First aid treatment will be given by a staff member or nurse (if available)
parent or emergency contact person will be contacted
if hospital treatment is required, an ambulance may be called (depending on the injury) to take the student to the hospital.
** Please keep the school updated with changes in phone numbers and your child’s health concerns!

Parent Involvement

Volunteers:

We have always been very happy with the number of parents who become involved in school activities and in helping teachers. Should you wish to lend a hand, please contact your child's teacher. Parents are asked to check out the Peace River School Division’s policy on School Volunteers if they are interested in helping out at the school.

Some activities that you may be interested in volunteering for include:

  • General help in the classroom
  • Making of materials
  • Volunteering for special events - Sport Day, Reading Nights
  • Helping in the library
  • Providing expertise during the Mini-Option Program
  • Supervising during field trips
  • Parent Advisory Council

Parents are also welcome to join the Parent Advisory Council.  Please check our page devoted to information regarding our PAC.

Homework

From time to time children may be asked to complete school assignments at home that they did not finish in class time. As well, they may have weekly spelling words to review or a special project.  Stuudents should not take more than 20 minutes to half an hour a night to do homework. Children need fresh air, exercise, relaxation, and an early bedtime.

However, we do encourage parents and children to read together daily.  Most classrooms have home reading programs and students are encouraged to particpate in these reading activities.

School Attire

Student Clothing:

Creating a positive, productive learning environment is one of Springfield School’s priorities. In order to do this we encourage all students to wear appropriate and safe clothing.

For example:

  • Wear appropriate footwear – both inside and outside.
  • Running shoes are required for gym classes. (please no black soles on shoes)
  • Students should not bring/wear make-up to school.
  • Shirts must meet the pants
  • No hats worn in the school
